The 11" Double-D coil you sweep over the ground. It is waterproof, so wet grass, puddles and shallow water are fine — and it can be swapped for a different coil later.

TipKeep it flat and just above the grass, and don’t lift it at the end of each swing.

No — batteries are not included. The battery type is listed just above the add-to-basket button and in the specifications, and any supermarket sells them.
It depends on your soil, how wet it is, and the size of the object — so we don't print depth promises. See “Where it shines” above for the ground it suits best.
Where we say waterproof, we mean the search coil: wet sand, puddles and shallow water are fine. The control box is not waterproof — keep it dry.
No. It arrives in a few pieces and goes together in minutes with no tools — shaft, coil, control box. The manual shows it step by step.
Not in England, Wales or Scotland — but you always need the landowner's permission, and never on a Scheduled Monument. In Northern Ireland a licence from the Department for Communities is required before searching for archaeological objects. Read our plain-English guide.
