1Search coil

The 10" coil is waterproof: wet grass, rain and the water’s edge are fine.

TipKeep it flat and low, and overlap each sweep a little.

Carries the signal from the coil to the control box, wound round the shaft.

TipKeep it wound snugly — a loose cable can cause false beeps.

A big two-digit target ID, the target type, sensitivity level and battery level.

TipNote the numbers your finds give — after a few outings you’ll recognise good targets.

Power, minus and plus, pinpoint (PP), menu and enter, plus the backlight. Modes: All-Metal, DISC and Notch.

TipUse Notch to silence one kind of junk (like ring pulls) while still hearing everything else.

Where your hand goes, under the control box.

Takes the weight on your forearm so your wrist doesn’t do all the work.

A stand under the arm rest: the detector stands up on its own, so the coil and box stay off wet ground.

TipHandy while you dig — no more laying it in the mud.

Asked & answered

Questions we're often asked.

Ask us anything

Replies in English within 24 hours, Monday to Friday.

Are batteries included?

No — batteries are not included. The battery type is listed just above the add-to-basket button and in the specifications, and any supermarket sells them.

How deep will it detect?

It depends on your soil, how wet it is, and the size of the object — so we don't print depth promises. See “Where it shines” above for the ground it suits best.

Can it go in water?

Where we say waterproof, we mean the search coil: wet sand, puddles and shallow water are fine. The control box is not waterproof — keep it dry.

Is it hard to assemble?

No. It arrives in a few pieces and goes together in minutes with no tools — shaft, coil, control box. The manual shows it step by step.

Do I need a licence?

Not in England, Wales or Scotland — but you always need the landowner's permission, and never on a Scheduled Monument. In Northern Ireland a licence from the Department for Communities is required before searching for archaeological objects. Read our plain-English guide.

Can I return it?

Request a return within 30 days of delivery by emailing contact@terravynor.com. We provide a prepaid label. See our Return & Refund Policy for conditions and your statutory cancellation rights.
